About me

Andrea Azize Güvenç

I was born and raised in Essen, Germany in 1957.

I am an occupational therapist and worked for many years in Germany and Austria in different institutions and my own practice.

In 1994 I met Dr. Güvenç with the Ancient Oriental Music & Movement Therapy (AOM), which was embedded in an open wide thinking and practicing Sufism. Both impressed me so much that I took the AOM training and turned to spiritual practices.

In 1999 Dr. Güvenς and I got married and I went with him to Turkey. From then on we lived, worked and traveled together until my husband’s death, in July 2017.
For the group Tümata (Turkish Music in Research and Presentation), I am an organizer, singer and dancer, internationally.

As a photographer, I documented our travels and several books were produced.

Reflections

My personal and professional interests focus on the following questions, among others:

How can people lead meaningful and satisfied lives?

How do body, soul and spirit interact? And what happens when one is impaired?

How can process-oriented bodywork, music, movement, dance, poetry, meditations and altered states of consciousness help to find balance again?
